Over the winter months we had the opportunity to install exterior LED accent lighting at Flex Wash in Petoskey. This project encompasses 165 feet of reverse aluminum channel with programmable RGB LED’s that reflect onto the building. The outcome is an aesthetically pleasing subtle glow along the structure’s face.

The building architects initially designed the LED light feature, and the owners of Flex Wash came to us to create it. Our engineers performed their magic and then our fabricators went to work so the installation team could take over. This was a fun job that we were able to accomplish because we had all the tools along with the right people to make it all come together.

Like any great project, there’s always the rest of the story… To install the light feature properly, our installers required a pattern. Producing a full template at 165’ was a test to the limitations of our plotting machines that created the mounting holes. The paper pattern material is susceptible to slipping on long runs, which required adjustments along the way to be sure that everything lined up correctly. Our team overcame the challenges, and we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.

Most people don’t think of projects like this as signage but more of an architectural feature, that is classified as branding a building. Exterior LED accent lighting is becoming a popular method for creating brand awareness in more than just urban areas. One sure way to get people to remember you is by turning your business location into a landmark that everyone identifies with because it is unique and interesting.
