Recently, we made some new signs for the Care and Share Food Pantry in East Jordan. We are always happy to see organizations such as this doing good in our communities and would like to take a brief moment to help spread the word about what they do.
The pantry has been providing food and other necessities to families in East Jordan since 1984. It started very small, operating out of someone’s home, and since then, has grown and moved several times. In 2007, they were fortunate to be offered space free-of-charge by the Crossroads Resale Shop. The combination of the resale shop and food pantry has worked out well. In fact, when the Crossroads store grew and needed to relocate to a larger space outside of town in early 2017, the food pantry also made the move with them.
The pantry is located at 205 Water St, East Jordan, MI 49727 and is open to anyone that resides in the East Jordan school district. The hours are every Tuesday from 2pm to 4:30pm and Thursdays from 9:30am to noon for both shopping and donations. They are grateful for food contributions and also will accept paper products, such as toilet paper and paper towel, and all manner of personal hygiene products, such as toothpaste and shampoo. The only items they are not able to take are homemade goods and farm-fresh eggs. At the moment, canned vegetables seem to be a little harder to come by and, therefore, especially helpful.
If you have any questions or are considering organizing a food drive, Kathy Reid, the Executive Director, can be reached at (231) 536-7423.
