Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) is held annually on the first Friday of October, with many events continuing throughout the month. This year MFG Day falls on October 7th. The day has started a movement, and is accredited as manufacturing’s prime opportunity to highlight careers in a modern manufacturing environment.

Historically, manufacturing jobs have the stigma of being labor intensive along with having undesirable working environments. A transition has influenced modern manufacturing. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) skills are now an essential part of an industry that offers rewarding wages. The tools of yesterday have transitioned to robotics, computers, CNC machines and electronics. MFG Day gives students, parents and educators the unique opportunity to see first-hand the reality of modern manufacturing careers.

On MFG Day, events are coordinated between companies and educators to fill the skills gap and inspire the future workforce. These events give students the chance to tour facilities, watch demonstrations, and ask one-on-one questions about a trade or profession. Teachers have the opportunity to show students the correlation between in-class studies and real-world possibilities.

Pro Image Design gets excited about MFG Day because we do sign prototyping, engineering, manufacturing, and installation, along with graphics and visual communications. This involves a variety of trade skills such as welding, graphic design, fabrication, precision machining, CAD/Technical drafting and electronics.

The first MFG Day was in 2012 with 240 events across the Midwest. It has since grown to more than 3,000 events held throughout all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Over the next decade, 4 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled in the US. You can learn more about MFG Day by visiting the official official MFG Day website.
