On January 29–30, 2026, the doors of the newly expanded Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan swung open, marking the culmination of years of vision, planning, and unwavering determination by the Bay Mills Indian Community. The expansion adds 135 guest rooms and suites with sweeping views of Lake Superior, alongside world-class amenities including a spa, indoor pool, dining, and Ojibwe-inspired art woven throughout every detail of the space. Designed in partnership with DSGW Architects and Miron Construction, the project reflects both cultural pride and environmental stewardship, blending seamlessly into the natural landscape it calls home. More than a resort, this landmark represents economic vitality, job creation, and a foundation of prosperity for generations to come.
Our Role
We are proud to have played a small part in bringing this beautiful building to completion through the production and installation of signage throughout the new section of the facility. Using designs provided by DSGW Architects and Miron Construction we fabricated the 18’ exterior channel letter on the North side of the new wing, reverse halo lit internal signs, and wayfinding signs throughout.
That’s a Big B.
The sheer scale of the 16’ x 18’exterior channel letter sign of the iconic Bay Mills “B” provided challenges for the engineers and fabricators in our Traverse City workshop. However, the logistics required to mount and wire up the massive sign during a Northern Michigan snowstorm proved our installers to be a stalwart crew who can get the job done. With the exterior sign mounted and 118’ of LED modules wired up, they could move indoors to install the Hotel, Casino, and Lakeside Lounge channel letters. We routed aluminum faces and returns out of brushed aluminum to create the flowing text and installed warm LEDs inside to create a distinctive halo effect behind each sign.
Custom Wayfinding and Guest Room Signs
The interior wayfinding and guest room signs, designed by DSGW, were produced from layers of acrylic and finished with stainless steel screw caps. The spec called for a particular material that we discovered was discontinued by the manufacturer. Our design team was able to create a similar pattern effect that we printed on the back of the clear acrylic backers. Paired with frosted acrylic, tactile lettering, and digitally printed graphics, the final design is truly unique and adds to the overall aesthetic the clients had envisioned for the space.
Our teams also relocated the monument sign marking the new entrance to the facility, crafted smaller “B” logo signage for the reception desk, and provided each room with evacuation maps among other necessary signage projects.
Next up, we’re working with the Casino and Resort to produce additional wayfinding signage to help ensure a pleasant experience for guests as they make their way from the lobby to new amenities awaiting them.
