This past winter we completed five new slot machine displays with bases for Pervasive Gaming Operations, LLC.
The project was a culmination of strategizing, conceptualizing, and fabricating a total of 17 different displays over the past 13 months.
Pervasive came to us after an online hunt to discover a creative custom shop that could bring their vision of a slot machine casino display, featuring a full-size Indian Motorcycle to life. They had a great idea but needed a partner to design and fabricate the parts required yet hide the operational hardware and motorcycle display stand. Our task was to meet these requirements while simultaneously attracting the eyes of gamers in a casino environment where everything is vying for attention.
We started by sketching designs that were both practical and complementary to the motorcycle and slot machines. We were careful not to compete with the bike and games, which are the focal points of the display. From there, we began mocking up parts from corrugated plastic and duct tape. After 5 weeks of prototyping, the final display was created. It consists of dividers, signs, a 2-part platform cover with LED/Neon tube and accent lighting inside of the platform.
We had challenges along the way – version 1.0 had to be totally redesigned due to complications with installation and functionality. The motorcycle spins on a platform and called for clearance of the slot machine lights. The angles on the slots posed difficulties in creating dividers, and if the display is installed on an uneven floor, gaps could become an issue. Once we had the initial 5-machine display nailed down, we then developed a design for 4-slot and then 3-slot machine configurations. Building within the client’s budget was also a challenge. Knowing when to stop prototyping and start building was key.
Since the original concept, we’ve designed a more cost-effective way to display the motorcycles. The need for a scissor lift was eliminated, resulting in a huge cost savings for our client. The final display is impressive. Most people that have seen them in person have said something along the lines of: WOW… is that a real motorcycle? We’re excited to be a part of the solution for this unique project for Pervasive Gaming Operations and look forward to the next challenge.
