This time of year, with the number of projects coming in it’s easy to burn out.
There are some things I try to keep in my routine even though some days don’t seem to have enough hours.
Each day during my commute I try to carve out time for a podcast or two. My go-to contributors are Dave Ramsey for business and financial insight with his Entreleadership podcast and Jocko Willenk for personal development. Both offer great insight that I can easily relate to.
I am always finding things I can share with the team in a fresh new way that can be applied to many areas of our industry.
Another weekly habit is getting outside to enjoy the summertime riding my mountain bike, a short run or long hike. I have the same time scheduled each week so it’s easier to stay committed. Sometimes I go with a group (some from work) and other times I go out on my own. This time helps to clear my head which allows more room for creatively being able to tackle HR and customer challenges and puzzles. I’m not in the hunt win the Iceman, but Tara tells me it makes me more tolerable to be around.
Last but not least my favorite thing to do is enjoying time on our boat with Tara and the girls. We have been all over Lake Michigan from Wisconsin to the North Channel and many other cool spots. We have been boating as a family since day-one. It is a great way to get away from the hustle and chill with a cold Oberon (or two).
Summer is the reason we put up with winter here in Northern Michigan… Get out and enjoy it!
